What is the J-Stroke?

The stern paddler in a canoe has the job of steering the boat. We suggest that when first starting, beginners use the 'stern rudder' method of steering. Once comfortable with the 'stern rudder' method we recommend advancing to the J-stroke, a more energy efficient means of steering.
